WOMEN OF OWU
Femi Osofisan wrote Women of Owu, a post-war tragedy adapted from Euripides’ The Trojan Women and reimagined in 19th-century Yorubaland. After the brutal fall of Owu to invading forces from Ife, Ijebu, and Oyo, the play follows the grief-stricken women left behind: mothers, queens, and daughters, now captives of war. As they mourn their dead and await their fate, Women of Owu becomes a powerful lamentation on conquest, vengeance, and the enduring silence forced upon women in times of conflict.
